2012 Reading Challenges

This year I will be participating in some of the reading challenges that are floating around. As I started blogging in the summer of 2011 I missed all the fun that is reading challenges. I am not going to let that happen this year! Listed below are the challenges I am participating in, and the books that I think I will read for them. Some books will appear on multiple lists. As I make progress in 2012 I will update this list.

2012 Reading Challenges

Challenges Still In Progress

First off we have a challenge I am excited to be hosting myself, the 2012 Black Stallion Reading Challenge.

Objective:
Runs January 1, 2012 – December 31, 2012. Read as many of the Black Stallion books as possible during 2012.

Levels:
1-5
6-10
11-15
16-20
21-24 (That's the whole complete original Black Stallion series!)
25-30 (Including the newer Young Black Stallion series by Steven Farley.)

I would love to be able to read all 30, but right now I am aiming for at least 12 (one per month).

Books I've Completed:
1. The Young Black Stallion by Steven Farley

2012 Outdo Yourself Reading Challenge

Objective:
Runs January 1, 2012 – December 31, 2012. The goal is to outdo yourself by reading more books in 2012 than you did in 2011. You can change levels at any time during the challenge. Books can be any format (bound, eBook, audio). Re-reads and crossovers from other reading challenges are allowed.

Levels:
Getting my heart rate up – Read 1–5 more books
Out of breath – Read 6–10 more books
Breaking a sweat – Read 11–15 more books
I’m on fire! – Read 16+ more books

In 2011 I set out to read 50 books, and I can already tell I am going to go over that. So, for 2012 I am going to set a goal to read 6-10 more books (Out of Breath) than I did in 2011.

Books Read in 2012:

Objective:
To read and review a minimum of twelve young adult or middle grade debut novels between the dates of January 1, 2012 - January 31, 2013.
**The 2013 extension is so that December Debuts can be read and count toward the challenge.

Your challenge is to read 10 sophomore YA/MG novels in 2012. To officially participate, you need a Goodreads account or blog where you post reviews in English. Any second YA or MG book published by an author in 2012 counts – it can be the second in a series, a new series, or a standalone. The only requirement is that it is the SECOND book the author has published in the YA or MG realm (and it must publish in 2012 in your home country)! There is a Goodreads list HERE. Books read between January 2012 and December 2012 count for this challenge.

Books I'm Considering:

Objective:

Read all seven books in the Harry Potter series during 2012.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone - Completed
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

2012 Tudor Reading Challenge Hosted by The Musings of ALMYBNENR

Objective:

The challenge runs from 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2012. All book formats are allowed for this challenge as long as they have an ISBN number or the equivalent. Both fiction and non-fiction are allowed as well. Re-reads ARE allowed but your review must be a new one. All the books read for this challenge must be Tudor related. Books that feature any Tudor from Henry VII to Elizabeth I and any spouses, lovers, close family members, or themes count.  Since I am doing this more to help out a friend I will just be happy to achieve the Henry VII level.

Levels:
Henry VII (Creator of a dynasty): 5 books
Henry VIII (Larger than life): 10 books
Mary I (The first queen of England): 15 books
Elizabeth I (Gloriana & the Golden Age): 20 books

Completed:
1. Mary, Bloody Mary by Carolyn Meyer
